Colloidal processing and sintering of WC-based ceramics with low Ni content as sintering aid

چکیده

• Colloidal optimization in water allows the homogeneous dispersion of small amount (3 wt%) nanosized nickel within WC powders. Dispersed decreased temperature a dense compact (>95 th%) more than 500 °C. The smaller size is, better effect is observed. Compacts present equiaxial grains with metallic located at triple points and graphite precipitates sample. Tungsten Carbide low content shows hardness toughness similar to those higher content. To soften extreme sintering conditions (WC), 3 wt.% (Ni) was added starting ensure fair distribution second phase an intimate mixture phases, colloidal process adopted. A commercial Ni in-house synthesised were used as aids. Rheological studies allowed high final composite Sintering by Hot-Pressing route (HP) proved great benefices aid, decreasing maximum necessary achieve full densification, from 1900 1450 °C dwell times 20 7 min. Among all materials obtained, best results terms density, microstructure properties obtained for WC-nNi, which achieved 14.8 GPa comparable conventional cermets much phase.

PRESSURELESS SINTERING OF B4C-NANOTiB2 NANOCOMPOSITE BY ADDITION OF Fe AND Ni AS SINTERING AIDS

B4C and its composites with TiB2 as second phase continues to be extensively used as the preferred ceramic material in military applications as armor systems for absorbing and dissipating kinetic energy from high velocity projectiles. It also exhibits a high melting point (2427 °C), and high neutron absorption cross section. Pressureless sintering of the B 4C-nanoTiB2 nanocomposite using small ...

Sintering of Ceramics

Sintering with low frequency rf power (-50 M H z ) is a new technique with unique capabilities that has been used to sinter a variety of ceramic materials, including zirconia-toughened alumina, alumina, silicon carbide, and boron carbide. Processing with low frequencies offers many advantages compared to processing with conventional microwave frequencies (915 MHz and 2.45 GHz). Because of the l...

Effect of Sintering Aid Composition on the Processing of Si3N4/BN Fibrous Monolithic Ceramics

Si3N4/BN fibrous monoliths were prepared with 4 wt% Y2O3 added as a sintering aid to the Si3N4. Residual carbon, present in the billet before hot-pressing, was shown to influence the final microstructure. The sintering aid glass, known to migrate into the BN cell boundaries during hotpressing, was not sufficient in quantity to prevent premature shear failure when samples were tested in flexure....

Direct Laser Sintering of Ceramics

For more than one decade layer manufacturing technologies assist the development of new products. Due to a layer-wise build-up of a three-dimensional geometry, nearly every complex design is producible in a short period of time. Selective Laser Sintering is a powderbased technique to produce plastic prototypes (Rapid Prototyping) or metal mould inserts (Rapid Tooling). The laser sintering of ce...

Microwave Sintering of Thermistor Ceramics

Microwave sintering is a new sintering technology developed in the middle to late period of the 1980’s, which is characterized by fast densification for ceramic materials[1]. In recent years, microwave heating has been well employed in the field of sintering and joining of ceramics as a result of its advantages against conventional methods. These ceramic materials include oxides, mixed oxides, ...
